Let’s talk about what started this sort of obsession:
I’ve always liked Sonic and my favorite character was, and still is, Knuckles, but my favorite Team has always been Team Chaotix. They were just by far the most relatable, saving the world to pay their rent. I get their pain haha.
On April Fools day Sega released a real Sonic the Hedgehog murder mystery visual novel! "The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog" is more than just a joke, actually. It’s a genuine visual novel. I hope that companies stop releasing VNs as April Fools jokes though. It sort of makes the entire genre seem like a joke, doesn’t it?
Big spoiler warning. I will spoil the Murderer.
So, Espio in this game was written just… perfect. He’s trying to be cool, while playing his role as the poet, but his poems are goofy. Hee doesn’t get the game’s rules and is totally down to fire a potentially lethal blowdart at his friend. He was the perfect mix of the persona he puts on and the actual more embarrassing personality he hides. It made me fall in love with the character all over again, the same way I did when I was a kid playing Sonic Heroes.
Since then I’ve drawn him a LOT. I’ve even edited him. He is one of those characters that I relate to, which makes him different from someone like Knuckles, who I don’t necessarily relate to, besides I guess the autism, but just love as a character.
So yeah, I’ve re-read most of the Archie comics, the IDW comics and replayed Heroes. Its been a few interesting months haha. The special interest came back from the dead, so to speak.
